A small plane with six people on board crashed Saturday afternoon in a mud field about 50 miles south of Albany in New York state, causing at least one confirmed fatality, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the Columbia County Sheriff's Office.
The plane, a Mitsubishi MU-2B, crashed around 12:15 p.m. local time in the rural area of Copake, near the Massachusetts border. Authorities said the plane was en route to Columbia County Airport, near Hudson, New York.
Officials have not yet confirmed the full number of injuries or possible fatalities. Emergency crews are facing difficulties due to wet terrain and snow that has covered the area.
The cause of the crash is not yet known. Investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are expected to arrive at the scene and provide more information on Sunday.
Two days ago, a tourist helicopter crashed into the Hudson River, killing all six people on board. The incident occurred Friday afternoon near Pier 25, between West and Canal streets, a popular tourist area in Manhattan.
