Iran has asked Cyprus to convey "some messages" to Israel, Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides said on Sunday.
His office said Christodoulides spoke on Sunday with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and has also held talks with the leaders of Egypt, the United Arab Emirates and Greece.
Christodoulides did not clarify who exactly the messages came from or what they contained.
Previously, the Cypriot Foreign Minister and his Iranian counterpart held a conversation on Friday evening.
Christodoulides also said he is unhappy with the European Union's, as he described it, slow response to the developing crisis in the Middle East.
Cyprus, as the EU member state closest to the Middle East, had requested an extraordinary meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council, he said.
Missiles fired from Iran towards Israel were visible from various locations in Cyprus on Friday and Saturday evening.
"It is not possible for the EU to claim a geopolitical role, to see all these developments and not have at least one meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers," Christodoulides told reporters.
Cyprus has offered assistance in evacuating third-party nationals from the region and has called on all parties to refrain from actions that could escalate the conflict./ REL (A2 Televizion)
