President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that Kiev and its allies are considering organizing a high-level meeting between Ukraine, Russia, the US, EU countries and the UK, as part of an effort to end Moscow's war in Ukraine.
According to foreign media, speaking after two phone calls with Donald Trump, the Ukrainian leader said that the meeting could be organized by Turkey, the Vatican or Switzerland.
"We are considering a meeting of all teams at a high level," he said further, writes A2 CNN.
Zelenskyy said he spoke one-on-one with Trump on Monday before the US leader called Vladimir Putin and again afterwards in a conversation that included the leaders of France, Finland, Germany, Italy and the European Union.
The Ukrainian president said that during his first phone call with Trump, he underlined the need for a ceasefire and sanctions against Russia, as well as the importance of Kiev's allies not reaching agreements with Russia without Ukraine.
"I'm very focused, it's a challenging time for us right now," he said, writes A2 CNN.
Zelenskyy said he expected Europe to announce a new "strong" package of sanctions against Russia, although he did not provide details.
He called on the United States to impose sanctions on Russia's banking and energy sectors to reduce revenue for its military needs.
He said he hoped that a major prisoner exchange, agreed in principle in talks in Istanbul, would take place within days or weeks. (A2 Televizion)
