The Kremlin said this morning that there could be progress on scheduling a meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin after the US president-elect is sworn in later this month.

According to foreign media, Trump said yesterday that a meeting between him and Putin was being discussed, but did not offer any timeframe.

The Kremlin said it welcomed the fact that Trump was demonstrating a desire to solve problems through dialogue, writes A2 CNN.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said: "Moscow has repeatedly stated that it is open to contacts with international leaders, including the US president, including Donald Trump."

"And the president himself has repeatedly said this, and we have repeatedly said this, and no prerequisites are required for this," he said.

"What is required is a mutual desire and political will to develop dialogue and solve existing problems through dialogue. We see that even Mr. Trump declares his willingness to solve problems through dialogue. We welcome this," he said. to Peskov.
