Before the fighting subsided, more than 5,300 Palestinian children were killed in 48 days of relentless bombing. A figure that does not include the many children missing and apparently buried under the rubble.
This is what UNICEF stated, adding that children need a long-term humanitarian ceasefire.
"All children of the State of Palestine and Israel deserve peace. If the violence were to return to this intensity, we can assume that hundreds more children will be killed and injured every day. The Gaza Strip is again, as of yesterday, the most dangerous place in the world to be a child."
A day earlier, Israeli shelling of homes and buildings in the Gaza Strip has killed around 100 people, as fighting resumed on Friday minutes after a ceasefire agreement expired. (A2 Televizion)
