At least 21 people were killed and 83 others injured after Russia fired a ballistic missile into the heart of the Ukrainian city of Sumy on Sunday morning.

As Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko claims, there are 7 children among the missing, while the toll is expected to rise, writes A2.

He said the victims were people in the middle of the road, in vehicles, homes and public transportation.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the attack, one of the deadliest in Ukraine this year.

"Only cowards can behave like this. To take the lives of ordinary people on the day they go to church. On Palm Sunday, the feast of the Lord's entry into Jerusalem," Zelensky wrote on social media, where he also posted a shocking video showing corpses in the streets. The Ukrainian president called on the US and Europe to react harshly to what he called an act of terrorism.

According to Zelensky, without pressure on the aggressor, peace is impossible: "Negotiations never stop ballistic missiles and aerial bombardments."

A security official in Kiev noted that the attack came after a visit to Moscow by US envoy Steve Witkoff. Witkoff held talks with Russian President Putin in St. Petersburg on Friday, seeking a peace deal, as Trump told Russia to "move."

Sunday's attack follows a statement by the Defense Ministry in Moscow earlier this weekend that Ukraine had carried out five attacks on energy infrastructure, which it said constituted a violation of the Trump-brokered moratorium.

Russia and Ukraine agreed to halt attacks on each other's energy infrastructure last month, but have repeatedly accused each other of violating the deal.  (A2 Televizion)
