Russian forces have taken control of the city of Toretsk in eastern Ukraine, the Russian Defense Ministry has said.
According to foreign media, a major battle for the city began in June last year, with fierce fighting for its control ever since.
It has not been possible to independently verify the battlefield report, writes A2 CNN.
Russia calls the city by its Soviet-era name Dzerzhynsk and says Ukraine's eastern Donetsk region is now part of Russia, a claim Kiev disputes.
Russian forces also continue to push towards Pokrovsk, a major logistics hub approximately 50 kilometers southwest of Toretsk, and towards Chasiv Yar to the north.
While Moscow continues its attacks in Ukraine, Kiev, on the other hand, continues its offensive in the Kursk region inside Russia, where today they claimed to have advanced 3 kilometers deeper.
While there is still no agreement to end the fighting, we recall that US President Donald Trump considered achieving a ceasefire between the two countries one of his strongest 'weapons' during the election campaign. (A2 Televizion)
