The US Secretary of Defense spoke after a meeting with his NATO counterparts.
"The countries there far exceed the 2% norm and we think they have reached a very close, almost equal, consensus on a 5% commitment to NATO," he said, foreign media reported.
The US is calling on NATO allies to spend 5% of GDP on defense, far more than current targets.
"There are some places that are not there yet, I won't mention any names," he added, writes A2 CNN.
Asked specifically about the UK, he says "we'll get there", implying they will also talk about the UK's defence budget.
He left for a "family photo," a photo with other NATO ministers, but added that he would return to answer more questions. (A2 Televizion)
