US intelligence has found that the Iranian military loaded mines onto several ships in the Persian Gulf in June, a sign that it was preparing to block the Strait of Hormuz in response to Israeli attacks, US officials told Reuters.
This move, according to US intelligence, suggested that Tehran was serious about closing one of the world's busiest shipping corridors, with about a fifth of global oil and gas shipments passing through this waterway.
It is not clear when Iran placed the mines on the ship, or whether they have since been removed. (A2 Televizion)
