The United States has issued an ultimatum to Russia to reach final negotiations with Ukraine by the end of April. The international news agency Reuters reports that the ultimatum to Russia was announced by Donald Trump's special envoy for the Russia-Ukraine conflict, Stephen Wittkoff.

If President Vladimir Putin does not agree to a ceasefire by the end of the month, the United States is prepared to impose new sanctions on Russia, either under Trump's executive order or under legislation passed by Congress, a diplomatic source told Reuters.

If an agreement is reached, the lifting of restrictions will be possible with a simple decision by the president; in the second case, a lengthy procedure will be necessary, which in practice could last for decades.

The ultimatum to the Kremlin is expected to be delivered by Trump's special envoy, Witkoff, who will meet with Putin in Russia. Over the past two months, Russian and American diplomats have held at least six meetings, including two last week, but none of them have yielded any concrete results. On April 2 and 3, the director of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, Kirill Dmitriev, visited Washington, and yesterday delegations from the two countries talked for almost 6 hours in Istanbul.

Meanwhile, Ukraine is to receive new military support worth 450 million pounds, the British Prime Minister has confirmed, as European allies try to strengthen the country's position ahead of any peace deal with Russia.

Britain will provide 350 million pounds of its 4.5 billion pound military support package for Ukraine this year, with Norway contributing further funding, Britain's Ministry of Defense said. (A2 Televizion)
