As access to fuel and other resources dwindles in Gaza, the spread of epidemics, infectious diseases, and famine seem inevitable.
This is what has been warned by the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk.
"A total depletion of fuel reserves would be catastrophic across Gaza, leading to the complete collapse of water, sewage and essential health care services, and ending the flow of humanitarian aid that has been allowed until now. today," Türk said during an informal conference Thursday after his visit last week to the Middle East.
Meanwhile, UNICEF announced on Tuesday that it has already received reports of increased levels of dehydration among citizens and more than 30,000 cases of diarrhea in Gaza.
The UN human rights chief also called against intensifying violence and harsh discrimination against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem.
Türk said his office's calls for a de-escalation of violence, particularly in Gaza, have been ignored.
"The killing of so many civilians cannot be considered collateral damage. The only winner of such a war is likely to be extremism and further extremism," he added . (A2 Televizion)
