America is closing its Agency for International Development, or USAID, as it is otherwise known. This came after a verbal attack from Elon Musk, who was hired by President Donald Trump to lead the Department of Government Efficiency. The billionaire compares USAID to an apple that is not only rotten, but also beyond recovery and emphasizes that the head of the White House has agreed to close the agency.
"What we have here is not an apple with a worm in it, but in fact we have a ball of worms. If you have a rotten apple you want to take the worm out, but if it is full of crimes, then it cannot be saved. USAID is a ball of worms. There is no apple at all there. And when there is nothing to bite then you have to get rid of it all. USAID is a criminal organization," said Elon Musk, Head of the Department for Government Efficiency, writes A2 CNN.
However, the president has not yet sealed the final closure, but attacked the leaders, saying they are from the radical left.
"It's run by a bunch of radical lunatics and we're taking them out. USAID is run by radical lunatics and we're taking them out. We'll make a decision then," Trump said.
While no decision has been made, employees at USAID's Washington headquarters were sent an email in the early hours of Monday asking them not to come to the office. CNN reports that most have been asked to work from home and only do essential work from the office.
Signs of the possible closure of the US humanitarian agency began to appear last week, with the removal of many publications about USAID's work around the world.
