White House releases details of Trump-Zelensky phone call

White House press secretary Caroline Leavitt has shared details of a phone call between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Citing a statement from Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, Leavitt says Trump and Zelensky had a "fantastic" conversation.

According to her, Zelensky thanked the US for its support, especially for the Javelin missiles, and that "lasting peace under the leadership of President Trump can be achieved."

The two leaders also discussed the fighting in Kursk, while Zelensky called for more air defense resources.

A technical meeting is expected soon with the aim of a broader ceasefire in the Black Sea.

Trump also reportedly said that "American ownership" of Ukraine's energy infrastructure could help the country.

Leavitt was asked about the minerals deal between the U.S. and Ukraine, which was just a few weeks ago, a major topic of conversation between the two countries.

She did not respond directly, referring to the previous statement by Rubio and Waltz.

However, she said the US is "beyond" the minerals deal and is now more focused on peace negotiations. Leavitt was also asked about a line in the Kremlin's readout of the Putin-Trump call that suggested the US and Russian ice hockey teams would play each other.

"We are more interested in a peace agreement than in scheduling hockey games."
