"As if I were reborn" - Citizen in Gaza confesses pain: I slept well

Mahmoud Rostom, a third-year student in Gaza who became a 'citizen journalist' during the war, said he was able to sleep peacefully yesterday, for the first time since the war began.

"During the war I couldn't sleep as well as I wanted, as the bombs were everywhere, everywhere and every time," he told the BBC's Newsday programme this morning.

"But this time, yesterday I went to bed early because of the feeling of being safe, the best time in 470 days, and woke up early," he said.

"I was shocked because the day I woke up I saw children in my neighbor's house playing football, the first time in so long. I could see people selling some sweets like before the war. It was like I was born again," he added.

We recall that a ceasefire agreement ended heavy fighting in Gaza, which will be accompanied by the release of Israeli hostages and Palestinian prisoners.

Thousands of people, mostly civilians, have lost their lives in the fighting in Gaza during these months of fighting, writes A2 CNN.
