US President Donald Trump's national security adviser, Mike Waltz, has taken responsibility for the leak of information from the Signal app, which spoke of planning a possible military attack on Houthi rebel targets in the allied country of Yemen. In an interview with Fox News, Waltz said it is a shame that this information is being made public.
"I take full responsibility. I founded the group at Signal. But this situation is shameful. We will see it through to the end. Our team is the best the United States has ever had and Trump is a great leader," said Mike Waltz, National Security Advisor.
However, Waltz said he did not know how journalist Jeffrey Goldberg's number got into his cell phone and how Goldberg then got into the group. Perhaps a contact in his cell phone address book was saved with a different number, Waltz suggested. He said he did not personally know the editor-in-chief of The Atlantic, who broke the scandal.
US President Donald Trump distanced himself from the drastic security breach. "I was not involved," he told the right-wing broadcaster Newsmax. At the same time, he expressed satisfaction with the statements so far from his cabinet members on the matter. He feels comfortable with what he has heard.
Trump had previously dismissed the allegations against his team and defended Waltz. “He’s a very good man and he’s going to continue to do a great job,” Trump said. Trump told Fox News: “He’s not going to be fired.” Instead, he lashed out at The Atlantic magazine, which Trump said was a failed media outlet and the journalist in question was an “old man” who was “bad for the country.” (A2 Televizion)
