Mike Waltz has taken responsibility for infiltrating The Atlantic reporter into the classified Pentagon conversation about the Houthi attacks. In an interview with Fox News, the Donald Trump adviser admitted that he "made a mistake" by thinking it was "someone else," but also implied that Jeff Goldberg "somehow managed to infiltrate the Signal group."
Waltz claims he got Goldberg's number under a different name "due to a staff error," for which he "takes full responsibility." He called the incident of the confidential Pentagon conversation in which the Atlantic editor was mistakenly tapped embarrassing.
"It's embarrassing. But we're going to get to the bottom of it. We have the best technical minds 'examining' how this could have happened. I can say 100 percent that I don't know this guy. I know him because of his terrible reputation and he's really the scum of journalists. And I know him in the sense that he hates the president, but I don't text him. It wasn't on my phone and we'll figure out how it happened ," Donald Trump adviser Mike Waltz said of journalist Jeff Goldberg's involvement in a Signal chat.
While admitting the mistake, Waltz implied that the journalist "made sure to be there" in the conversation.
"I take full responsibility. I created the group. My job is to make sure everything is coordinated. I don't want to be pedantic here, but have you ever had a contact from someone who gives their name and then has someone else's number? It looked like someone else. Now, whether they did it intentionally or it happened in some other technical way is something we're trying to figure out," he stressed.
