Since March 19, 1,418 people have been detained during demonstrations in several Turkish cities in support of Ekrem Imamoglu, the mayor of Istanbul, who was suspended from office after being arrested for corruption, ANSA reports.
"While 979 people are currently in detention, 478 people will be sent to court" to verify whether or not their detention will continue, said Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya after publishing data on the total number of those arrested during the demonstrations, where clashes between demonstrators and security forces were recorded, KosovaPress reports.
