UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has confirmed that he has signed an agreement that transfers control of the Chagos Islands to Mauritius.
According to foreign media, this includes the vital military base of Diego Garcia, which will be leased from the government of Mauritius.
Speaking in Hertfordshire, Sir Keir Starmer says the "full assessment" of the reason for the decision is "highly classified".
The military base is joint UK-US and Donald Trump has welcomed the agreement, writes A2 CNN.
The Prime Minister claims that he had to make the deal because otherwise Mauritius would have taken the UK to international courts and probably won, with additional penalties being imposed. (A2 Televizion)
