Official Moscow has reacted after the recent statements of the president-elect of America, Donald Trump, who wants the US to take control of the Panama Canal and Greenland for reasons of national security.
While stating that the Kremlin is following these developments with great interest, spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that the Arctic remains "in the sphere of strategic interests" of Moscow, which remains interested in "peace and stability in the region."
Further, Peskov also commented on Trump's intentions to establish contacts with President Putin, saying that the head of state "cannot but welcome" this fact, but so far the Russian presidency has not received any request.
"Perhaps it would be more appropriate to wait until Trump takes office in the White House," Peskov said. (A2 Televizion)
