"Let's get rid of nuclear weapons" - Kremlin reacts to President

Russia has called for dialogue after President Trump said it would be "nice if everyone got rid of their nuclear weapons".

According to foreign media, the Kremlin said the discussions should also include Europe's nuclear arsenals.

French President Macron has suggested extending the protection offered by his country's nuclear warheads to other countries on the continent, writes A2 CNN.

Donald Trump said: "I know Russia and we have the most. China will have an equal amount within 4-5 years.

"It would be great if we could all denuclearize, because the power of nuclear weapons is insane."

Asked about these comments, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters: "Dialogue between Russia and the US on arms control is necessary, especially in relation to strategic stability."

Speaking on Wednesday, Emmanuel Macron called Russia a "threat to France and Europe."

Moscow said the speech contained threats against it and "notes of nuclear blackmail."

The Kremlin has described Macron's speech as highly confrontational and said France was seeking "nuclear leadership in Europe." (A2 Televizion)
