Shooting at Swedish school campus leaves 11 dead

Police say 11 people have been killed in a shooting at an education center in central Sweden, including the suspected gunman.

According to foreign media, Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson described Tuesday's attack at the Risbergska school in Orebro, 200 km (124 miles) west of the capital Stockholm, as "the worst mass shooting in Swedish history."

Police said the suspect was among the dead and was believed to have acted alone. They added that the motive was still unclear, but ruled out anything "ideological".

"It is difficult to take into account the magnitude of what happened today," Kristersson said at an evening press conference.

Police earlier warned that the death toll could continue to rise as several people were injured.

In a statement Wednesday morning, police said the number of injured remains unclear.

Police heard reports of a shooting taking place at Risbergska School, an adult education center, at 12:33 p.m. local time (11:44 GMT). The facility is located on a campus that is home to other schools.

These centers are mainly frequented by people who have not completed primary or secondary school.

Previously, students from several nearby schools were being kept indoors "for security purposes." (A2 Televizion)
