The Israeli military has launched airstrikes against Yemen's Hodeidah port, a day after Iran-aligned Houthis fired a missile at Israel's main airport. The military said in a statement that it struck what it called Houthi terrorist targets and their surroundings.
The attacks killed at least one person and wounded at least 35 others, the Houthi-run Saba news agency said, citing the health ministry. The Houthis sealed off the area around the port and cement factory after the attacks, three sources said, Reuters reported.
They said the extent of damage to the port was unknown, however the intensity of the strikes caused severe damage to the container berth.
The port hit by the Israeli military is the second largest on the Red Sea after Aden and is the entry point for about 80% of Yemen's food imports. More than 10 attacks targeted Hodeidah Port and the Al Salakhanah and Al Hawak neighborhoods in Hodeidah city, five residents told Reuters.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to avenge Sunday's rocket attack, which was the first to escape Israel's air defenses in a series of attacks since March.
Houthi rebel official Abdul Qader al-Mortada said in a post on X, commenting on the attack, that Israel should expect the "unimaginable." (A2 Televizion)
