British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has announced that the UK is sending more fighter jets to the Middle East in response to the escalating clashes between Israel and Iran. The aircraft include Typhoons as well as aerial refueling planes, which are part of an emergency support operation for the region.
Sir Keir said the situation was very dynamic and that ongoing discussions were taking place with international allies. "The constant message is: de-escalate," he stressed, adding that the priority was to maintain regional stability.
This is the second time Britain has announced the deployment of aircraft to the region, following a similar decision last year, when it was said that British aircraft helped prevent further escalation of the conflict.
The British Prime Minister made the statement while traveling to Canada to attend the G7 summit, where recent developments in the Middle East are expected to be the main topic of discussion.
