Could TikTok in the US be sold to Elon Musk? China denies it

The Bloomberg news agency, in an article published this Tuesday, claims that TikTok in America has been offered to billionaire Elon Musk to buy, in case the company ByteDance, which owns the social platform, fails to prevent its closure according to the decision of the Biden Presidency.

Bytedance has already taken the case to the US Supreme Court challenging the ban on its operations in the United States.

If TikTok's appeal to the Supreme Court doesn't have the desired effects, according to Bloomberg, Musk's social platform, X, could take control of TikTok US as part of some kind of co-management agreement.

According to Bloomberg, Chinese officials have not yet made a final decision regarding the issue of selling the social network, but Bytedance has officially denied these rumors, calling the article "pure fiction."

Elon Musk, who is always generous with comments, has preferred to remain silent this time. Neither have Chinese regulators in the sector, and in particular the Cyberspace Administration of China and the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, made any comment on the matter.

The US Supreme Court last week appeared inclined to uphold a law passed by the federal Congress that would force ByteDance to give up TikTok operations in the US by January 19, or face a ban on the platform in the country.

Congress justified the move on the basis of national security concerns, arguing that TikTok is being used by China as a tool for unfair influence on electoral and democratic processes in the US. (A2 Televizion)
