Another maritime tragedy has shocked the world, after a ship carrying African migrants capsized off the southern coast of Yemen, killing at least 68 people. The incident occurred near Abyan province, in the south of the country, according to reports from the International Organization for Migration.
According to information made public by the head of the IOM in Yemen, Abdusattor Esoev, there were 154 migrants from Ethiopia on board the ship, who were trying to cross the sea to reach the Arabian Peninsula.
The maritime route between East Africa and Yemen has become one of the most dangerous migratory routes in the world, with tens of thousands of people attempting the crossing each year, often using improvised means and in impossible security conditions.
The International Organization for Migration has called for immediate international action to address the causes of forced migration and provide more humanitarian assistance to victims and survivors. (A2 Televizion)
