Trump demands Ukraine's mineral lands in exchange for US aid

Donald Trump said today he wants to negotiate a "deal" with Ukraine, so that Kiev would offer a "guarantee" for its rare earths, minerals widely used in electronics, in exchange for US aid.

"We're trying to find a deal with Ukraine where they can offer as collateral their rare earths and other things in exchange for what we give them," the US president told reporters in the Oval Office, stressing that Ukraine is willing to do so.

Regarding Gaza, the US president stated that there is "no guarantee" that the ceasefire will be extended in Gaza, on the eve of a meeting at the White House with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

"I have no guarantee that the peace will last," he said, before his special envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, who was at his side, added: "It has lasted so far, and we certainly have hope, to get the hostages and save lives and reach, hopefully, a peaceful resolution to all of this."
