The United States is considering the possibility of military involvement in the war between Israel and Iran, joining attacks on the latter. The United Nations Security Council will hold another emergency meeting on Iran on Friday in New York. The meeting comes at the request of Iran, supported by China, Pakistan and Russia. This will be the second meeting, following a first emergency meeting last Friday.
During his comments today, Trump said Iran should have done more to negotiate a deal with the United States over its nuclear program. “They should have made a deal,” Trump said. “They ultimately decided not to.” Earlier today, he told reporters on the White House lawn: “Why didn’t Iran negotiate with me before, with all this death and destruction? Why didn’t Iran negotiate?”
Iran had been showing up for talks on its nuclear program before the Israeli strikes on Friday, and further talks between Iran and the United States were scheduled for Sunday, A2 CNN reports. Tehran pulled out of the talks after the attack began and has refused to re-engage as the attacks continue.
Meanwhile, Tel Aviv University and Hebrew University conducted a survey to see how Israelis feel about the war. 83% of Israeli Jews support Israel's attacks on Iran. In areas where support for the government is high, those who want the war link it to stopping Iran from developing nuclear weapons. Others were against the war. A percentage of those surveyed cited concerns that it would distract global attention from the suffering people in Gaza and called on other nations to stop arming Israel. (A2 Televizion)
