US President Donald Trump said he would announce a "major trade deal" with a "great and highly respected country" today.
In a post on his social media platform Truth, Trump said he will make the announcement at a press conference at the White House at 10:00 a.m. ET, 4:00 p.m. PT.
According to the New York Times and Politico, the country the US president is talking about is the United Kingdom, citing several sources familiar with Trump's plans.
The tycoon called the deal "the first of many."
Last month, Trump imposed massive tariffs on US trading partners, but temporarily froze most of them to allow for the negotiation of trade deals.
He has claimed for weeks that the countries are preparing to sign treaties with the U.S. The New York Times says it is unclear whether a trade deal between the United States and the United Kingdom has already been finalized, or whether the two countries will announce a framework for an agreement that will be subject to further negotiations.
