US President Donald Trump vetoed an Israeli plan in recent days to assassinate Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, two US officials told Reuters.
According to foreign media, one of the sources said: "Have the Iranians killed any Americans yet? No. Until they do, we're not talking about pursuing political leadership at all."
Who is the supreme leader of Iran?
Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, serves as commander-in-chief of the armed forces and controls the Revolutionary Guard.
He has the final say on all major policies in the country, A2 CNN reports.
On the other hand, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has denied plans to assassinate Iran's supreme leader.
In an interview with Fox News' Bret Baier, the Israeli leader said: "There are so many false reports of talks that never happened and I'm not going to go into that topic.
"But I can tell you that I think we do what we need to do, we will do what we need to do. And I think the United States knows what is good for the United States," he said, writes A2 CNN.
He also said the attacks would end "when we take away" Iran's nuclear capabilities.
