Russia's former Transport Minister Roman Starovoit committed suicide on Monday after being fired by President Vladimir Putin, Russian authorities said. The news was reported by the Izvestia newspaper website.
Starovoit was found dead in his car with a gunshot wound in Odintsovo near Moscow.
After 14 months in office, Russian President Vladimir Putin today dismissed Transport Minister Roman Starovoit from his post.
The Kremlin announced this on its Telegram channel without giving reasons for the decision. Deputy Minister Andrei Nikitin was appointed interim minister pending approval by the Duma and was received by Putin himself.
"I hope that you will use your energy, knowledge and organizational skills to resolve the most important issues in this area," Putin told the new minister, emphasizing that transport is "one of the main areas of activity in the country."
Roman Starovoit, who was 52 years old, became Minister of Transport in May 2024. Previously, he had been governor of the Kursk region for five years, which was then partially occupied by Ukrainian troops starting in August last year. (A2 Televizion)
