Russian troops have attacked central Ukraine just hours after the US and Ukraine agreed to a 30-day ceasefire. The attacks have left one woman dead and dozens of residential buildings destroyed.
It is now known that, in Kursk, Russia has just brought Ukrainian troops to the brink of collapse. The complete reoccupation of the Russian region seems imminent, German media point out. From a purely military perspective, Putin could refuse a ceasefire - unless US President Trump radically changes course.
This fact is known even by the residents of Ukraine themselves, who are extremely skeptical about a ceasefire with Russia.
"Given the fact that while the talks were still underway, Russia launched Shahed drones at us, the chances are slim that Russia will agree to it (the ceasefire). So we have to continue to do what is necessary," Pavlo Hryndach said.
"Let's imagine ourselves in Russia's place, the 30-day ceasefire will allow them to stockpile more drones and missiles and in 30 days organize a double attack. Russia wants Odessa. Russia wants Kharkiv, Russia wants Sumy, Russia wants all of Ukraine," says Dariia Li, a lawyer from Kiev.
"Now, to be honest, I have many doubts that Putin will agree to a ceasefire. They officially said several times that they will not stop until they capture the Kherson region, the Zaporizhzhia region, which is clearly unacceptable for us," adds Zakhar Gruzdev, a manager from Kiev.
President Vladimir Putin is unlikely to easily accept a US proposal for a 30-day ceasefire in Ukraine, Russian sources told Reuters, adding that any deal must take into account Russian advances on the battlefield and address Moscow's concerns. (A2 Televizion)
