The White House supports Elon Musk's stance on closing the Agency for International Development, USAID. Spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt also denounced the abuses that this agency has committed with American taxpayer money by pouring massive amounts of money into projects that she called ridiculous and in some cases, malicious.
“The reason Elon Musk and others are getting involved is because of the waste and abuse that has gone through USAID over the past few years. Here are some of the crazy priorities that organization has spent money on: $1.5 million to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace program in Serbia, $70,000 for a production of a diversity musical in Ireland. $47,000 for a transgender opera in Colombia. $32,000 for a transgender comic book in Peru. I don’t know about you, but as an American taxpayer, I don’t want my dollars going to this crap and I know the American people don’t want it either and that’s exactly what Elon Musk has been tasked by President Trump to do, to root out fraud, waste, and abuse from our federal government,” said Karoline Leavitt, a White House spokeswoman.
The head of the Department of Government Efficiency, Elon Musk, recently claimed that USAID is a rotten and criminal organization. He even said that President Trump has confirmed his desire to close it. However, Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, emphasized that for now he is leading the Agency for International Development.
“Many of the functions of USAID will continue to operate and will be part of American foreign policy, but they need to be aligned with our governing program. It is not just my concern, but there have been for a quarter of a century. There are things that are being done that are good, but there are also some that raise a lot of questions. Our concerns have to do with the fact that it operates as an entity. USAID should take policy direction from the State Department. Not only do they not accept direction, they are completely uncooperative,” said Marco Rubio, Secretary of State.
Democratic lawmakers, who staged a protest, have called the effort to shut down USAID an "illegal, unconstitutional" action that would harm poor people abroad, national security and reduce US influence on the global stage. (A2 Televizion)
