A new heat wave has swept through Brazil and will last until February 21, causing temperatures in most of the South American country to rise to around seven degrees above average.
In the states of Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais, Bahia, Pernambuco and Piauí, temperatures could reach up to 40 degrees, international media report.
This week, the National Institute of Meteorology, Inmet, issued an extreme heat warning for the southern Brazilian state of Paraná, an alert that could be extended in the coming days to the states of Mato Grosso do Sul, São Paulo and Espírito Santo. (A2 Televizion)
