Houthi rebels in Yemen reported more US airstrikes against them, with the death toll reaching 53, including five children. Targets in the Al Jaouf and Hudaydah areas were hit early Monday, according to the rebel group, while US Central Command said its forces were continuing operations.
The US launched what it called a "decisive and powerful" wave of airstrikes on Houthi targets on Saturday as part of efforts to halt their attacks on shipping in the Red Sea. Washington said several key Houthi figures were among the casualties, but the group has not confirmed this. The group's leader, Abdul Malik al-Houthi, announced that the militants would target US ships in the Red Sea as long as the US continued its attacks on Yemen, A2 CNN reports.
While updating the toll, a spokesman for the Ministry of Health, Anis al-Asbahi, posted on the social network X that 53 people had been killed, including 5 children and 2 women, and that 98 had been injured.
In a statement to US media, national security adviser Michael Waltz said Saturday's airstrikes had targeted a number of Houthi leaders, eliminating them. Meanwhile, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth vowed an unabated missile campaign until the rebel attacks stopped. For their part, the Houthis claim they will continue to target ships in the Red Sea until Israel lifts its blockade of Gaza and that their own forces will respond to the attacks. (A2 Televizion)
