Russian attacks continue in Ukraine, at least 2 dead and dozens injured, reports

Russian airstrikes have killed two people and injured dozens more in Kharkiv and Sumy, Ukrainian authorities said on April 18.

Kharkiv Mayor Igor Terekhov said via Telegram that one person was killed and 26 others were injured in the attacks carried out by Russia in the city.

"According to initial information, the attacks on Kharkiv were carried out with ballistic missiles, loaded with cluster munitions. Therefore, the affected areas are very large," he said, adding that 15 residential buildings were damaged.

Kharkiv regional governor Oleg Synegubov said the attacks hit "residential parts" of the city.

In Sumy, near the border with Russia, Moscow forces used Iranian-made Shahed drones. The attacks killed one person and wounded another, the regional military administration said in a post on Telegram.

On Sunday, a Russian ballistic missile attack killed at least 35 people in Sumy and injured more than 100 others.

World leaders condemned the attack, which was the deadliest in Ukraine this year, and one of the worst since Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

Airstrikes have escalated despite calls from US President Donald Trump for a ceasefire.

A day earlier, US and European officials met in Paris to discuss the war in Ukraine. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio again called for a postponement of the peace plan presented by Washington./ REL (A2 Televizion)
