The Taliban's refugee minister in Afghanistan was killed in a suicide attack in the Afghan capital Kabul on Wednesday, the Interior Ministry said.
According to foreign media, Khalil Haqqani is the uncle of the current Taliban interior minister, Sarajuddin Haqqani, who heads the powerful Haqqani network.
On Wednesday, a suicide bomber disguised himself as a visitor to the Refugee Ministry compound, detonating his bomb while Haqqani was signing documents, a ministry spokesman told CNN.
He is the most high-profile victim of a bombing in Afghanistan since the Taliban returned to power three years ago.
In 2011, the United States classified Khalil Haqqani as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist, offering a reward of up to $5 million for information about him. It is also on the 1988 sanctions list of the United Nations Security Council.
The Haqqani network has carried out a series of major attacks during the war in the country and tensions have emerged between them and the Taliban, writes A2 CNN. (A2 Televizion)
