Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said his country is ready to move to an immediate ceasefire with Russia if the Russian side also stops the attacks.
"We are ready to move to a ceasefire as soon as possible, even today, if Russia is ready to do the same. A prolonged silence of at least 30 days would be a fair period of time to prepare the next steps," he said in a post on his official Telegram channel.
Zelensky stressed that a halt to fighting and bombing by Russia is the main condition for this ceasefire.
In the same statement, the Ukrainian president warned of the risk of possible provocations from Moscow during events marking the 80th anniversary of the Soviet victory in World War II, to be held on May 9 in Moscow.
He expressed concern about the possibility of "false flag" scenarios, where Russia could stage explosions to attribute blame to Ukraine.
"Putin can create incidents and then accuse us," Zelensky said, adding that he could not guarantee the safety of international leaders who will attend the parade.
On the other hand, Russia described this warning as a "direct threat" to the state ceremony. (A2 Televizion)
