Three hundred North Korean soldiers have been killed in Ukraine and about 2,700 have been injured. These data were released by Seoul's intelligence (NIS) at a parliamentary session, regarding the latest developments in cooperation between Moscow and Pyongyang.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has declared that he is ready to hand over two captured North Korean soldiers to Pyongyang in exchange for Ukrainian prisoners of war in Russia.
"Ukraine is ready to hand over captured North Korean soldiers to North Korean President Kim Jong-un if he manages to organize the exchange of our soldiers imprisoned in Russia," the Ukrainian president said, A2 CNN reports. .
"For those North Korean soldiers who do not wish to return, there may be other options available," Zelensky said on X, writes A2 CNN. Those who want to "bring peace closer by spreading the truth about this war in Korean will be given that opportunity," he added.
Ukraine's Security Service (SBU) said one of the two soldiers told officials he thought he was going to Russia for "training" rather than fighting.
He was found to have a Russian military ID card issued in the name of another person, while the other soldier had no documents.
The SBU said the two men, who were captured on January 9, are in Kiev and receiving medical attention. They speak only Korean and are being interrogated with the help of South Korea's National Intelligence Service.
Russia has not denied the use of North Korean troops in its war against Ukraine. President Vladimir Putin said in October that it was his country's "sovereign decision" whether or not to deploy such troops.
On Saturday, Zelensky posted pictures of two captured soldiers, showing one with his head and chin in bandages, while the other had both hands completely wrapped.
Zelensky's office said in a statement on Saturday that the Russians are "trying to hide the fact that these are soldiers from North Korea by giving them documents claiming to be from Tuva or other territories under Moscow's control."
On the other hand, writes A2 CNN, the Ukrainian president called on the allies to respect the agreements on the supply of weapons.
“Last week, the Russians launched hundreds of attacks on towns, villages and positions of our frontline fighters in Ukraine, in just one week, nearly 700 aerial bombs and over 600 attack drones. The Russian war continues because the Russian military maintains its ability to terrorize Ukraine and exploit its air superiority, so it is essential that our partners honor the agreements already made with us. The decisions taken at the NATO summit in Washington, as well as those approved during the Ramstein meetings regarding air defense for Ukraine, have not yet been fully implemented," Zelensky said in X.
