An oil tanker stranded in German waters belongs to Russia's shadow fleet, according to authorities in Berlin.
As it is said, through it Moscow tries to avoid Western sanctions. Germany's maritime authorities said Friday that the Panamanian-flagged ship, known as the Eventin, had lost power and direction, and that tugboats had come to its aid.
Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock blamed Moscow, accusing President Putin of evading sanctions and threatening European security by sending a fleet of rusty tankers.
Russia, which has previously refused to respond to accusations of using a shadow fleet, has not commented on the incident. The US, Great Britain and the EU have imposed sanctions on the Russian oil industry after the start of the war in Ukraine in 2024.
According to the German maritime authorities, the vessel stranded in the country's waters was 274 meters long and 48 meters wide, and was carrying 90,000 tons of oil. Berlin announced that no oil leak had been detected and that it was evaluating the steps it would take. (A2 Televizion)
