Kosovo-Serbia Dialogue, Germany calls for implementation of Brussels agreement

Germany states that the Brussels and Ohrid agreements reached between Kosovo and Serbia within the framework of the mediated dialogue between the two countries are binding on both parties. The basic agreement and the annex that marked the two-year anniversary of the agreement are far from being implemented, but the German Embassy in Kosovo, in a response to A2 CNN, says that they expect them to be implemented quickly and fully.

“Despite the limited progress made in the EU-facilitated dialogue last year, Serbia and Kosovo have unequivocally reaffirmed their commitment to the Ohrid Agreement, as well as to all other dialogue agreements under the EU Enlargement Plan. We hold Serbia and Kosovo accountable for this.”

Germany believes that there is new momentum in the dialogue process under the leadership of the new European Commission and its High Representative, Kaja Kallas, and urges the next Government to seize the opportunity for progress.

Berlin has also expressed support for the new dialogue envoy, Peter Sorensen, who is visiting Kosovo.

“We fully support the EU Special Envoy, Peter Sorensen, and are convinced that he will contribute effectively within the framework of the dialogue. The next government of Kosovo, with a new political mandate, should seize this momentum.”

Sorensen's visit, which continued on Wednesday with meetings with Serbian political and civil society representatives, was seen as an attempt to bring the parties closer to implementing some smaller issues.

"Sorensen claims that there will be a new approach and that the parties will implement what is feasible for them. This means that we will not have big and extraordinary things. This means that we cannot expect Serbia to recognize independence, as well as Kosovo to establish the Association. According to the Europeans, small things can be done but not something extraordinary," political analyst Dorajet Imeri told A2 CNN.

Sorensen, before leaving Kosovo on Wednesday, visited the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Pristina where he said that clarifying the fate of missing persons is a humanitarian necessity.  (A2 Televizion)
