"I came last to your grave, father!" Thaçi pays homage to his

Former Kosovo President Hashim Thaçi received special permission to return to the country, five days after the death of his father and three days after he was given his final farewell. Under strict security measures, he paid a visit to the resting place of Haxhi Thaçi in Burojë, Skënderaj.

"I came last to your grave, father," wrote former President Thaçi, on the wreath he laid on Friday, while sadness was clearly visible in his eyes. "Thousands of citizens came before me. Soon, hand in hand, I will thank everyone. May the soil of Kosovo be light," is the message of the former president.

The Special Court did not allow Thaçi to attend his father's funeral on Tuesday. After the tributes, Thaçi stayed for a few hours at his home where he met with his mother and wife. The former president was then taken to the EULEX headquarters, where he will reportedly meet with other family members.

Several citizens gathered at the entrance of EULEX and welcomed him with cheers. According to reports, Thaçi has been granted a two-day visit to Kosovo by the Hague Specialist Chambers. But this visit is conditional on compliance with strict security measures supervised by the EULEX mission. His movements will be limited and only accompanied by international security forces.
