The Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague have decided to extend the detention of former President Hashim Thaçi and former Speaker of the Parliament, Kadri Veseli, for another two months. The decision was made on April 11 by the presiding judge, Charles Smith III.
In its decision, the trial panel assessed that, although there is insufficient evidence that Thaçi and Veseli would attempt to escape if released, there is still a risk that they will interfere with the judicial process, particularly through influencing witnesses or individuals perceived as opponents of the Kosovo Liberation Army.
The Specialist Prosecutor's Office has emphasized that these risks cannot be sufficiently eliminated through any measure other than detention. The trial panel has agreed with this position, emphasizing that detention remains the safest way to avoid any possible interference with the judicial process or violation of confidentiality.
Meanwhile, four days ago during a weekly conference, it was announced that Thaçi's detention has been extended in another case related to charges of obstruction of justice. (A2 Televizion)
