The National Institute of Public Health of Kosovo said that the first case of Mpox, or monkey pox, has been confirmed in Kosovo.
The person infected with this virus is a 30-year-old citizen of Kosovo. IKSHPK said that he was hospitalized at the Infectious Diseases Clinic of the University Clinical Center of Kosovo on December 24, after he had returned from West Africa and had symptoms such as fever, fever, changes in the skin, face, hands and itching.
"The patient is in a stable state of health. IKSHPK has traced all the declared contacts of the infected person and his family members, who have been given recommendations for infection prevention and control measures", the announcement said.
The institute called for caution, adding that people affected by monkeypox usually experience mild or moderate symptoms, which, according to the IKSHPK, last two to four weeks.
Monkey pox is spread through close contact.
It is usually accompanied by mild symptoms, but in some cases the virus can be fatal for humans.
The virus is accompanied by flu-like symptoms, as well as pus-filled blisters all over the body.
In August, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared it a global public health emergency.
