Serbian Prime Minister Gjuro Matsut said on Friday that the Kosovo Government's decision to ban Serbian flags during the Vidovdan celebration on June 28 in Gracanica is a continuation of the policy of systematic intimidation and institutional pressure against Serbs in Kosovo.

A few days before Vidovdan, when Serbs commemorate the Battle of Kosovo in 1389, the Basic Court in Pristina overturned a decision by the Municipality of Gracanica that allowed the display of Serbian national symbols, including the flag, as part of the holiday's celebration.

"The ban on the use of national symbols on Vidovdan, a day that has deep historical and spiritual meaning for the Serbian people, testifies to the deeply disturbing reality in which the rights of a community in the heart of Europe are being systematically eroded," Matsut said.

He added that "although the European Union condemns the actions of the outgoing Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, he continues to act with the full support of Western countries."

According to him, these are not isolated incidents, but elements of a gradual disappearance of Serbian identity. The Serbian population in Kosovo, he continues, is both physically and legally endangered.  (A2 Televizion)
