While the EU summit with the countries of the Western Balkans is being held in Brussels, the President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, has criticized the EU for the measures that are not being lifted.
"I have to say that we are absolutely disappointed with the treatment of Kosovo by some EU member states. And if we ask why, obviously the main reason is that there is no progress in lifting the measures against Kosovo. They are still in place. And as we have seen, the conclusions that are expected to be approved do not seem to be removed this December. I believe that these measures are unfair. There is nothing European about them, there is no value based on punishing an entire people, even on drinking water projects... it has been more than two years since we applied for membership in the European Union, but our application is somewhere in the drawers. It is not even being considered and the Council has not yet mandated the Commission.
If you look at the reforms undertaken by Kosovo, in terms of reforms, in terms of values, we are number one in our region, maybe even ahead of some EU member states. We have adapted our policies 100 percent to those of the European Union and we have made reforms, we also submitted the reform agenda through which we were included in the growth plan. But I think there is a lack of political will of some member countries and that is why Kosovo is not moving forward. There is also positive language used for Serbia inviting it to open the 3rd set of chapters. Through this message, what we understand in the region, especially people in Kosovo, is that the closer you get to Russia, Iran or China, the more chapters you open and close. While Kosovo, which is 100% harmonized with the EU, there is no progress. This is not a merit based process.
Serbia's continuous aggression against Kosovo is against the principles of international law and against the values of good neighborliness, which are the values of the EU. Last month we had an attack on critical infrastructure in Kosovo by Serbian gangs, who aimed to leave 70 percent of the people of Kosovo without water, power and heating in the winter. It resembles the Russian attacks on Ukraine in the middle of winter. Until this happens, and Serbia has not taken responsibility for last year's aggressions in Kosovo, it is being rewarded and making great progress with the opening of new chapters." (A2 Televizion)
