The Serbs challenge Kurti, the parallel institutions are closed, but the work

Determined to extend the law to the troubled north as well, the authorities in Kosovo have closed down a series of parallel institutions in recent months that operated according to the Serbian system.

The last of them was the Tax Administration in North Mitrovica, which was closed on January 8. However, Lista Serbe, which met with the employees of this structure, announced on Wednesday that despite the closure of the premises, the services would not be stopped.

And in fact, the work of many of the institutions closed even earlier has not stopped. Radio Evropa e Lire mentions cases of citizens who testify that they are doing their work from home, but also from the border towns of Serbia.

One of them, identified as Miloš from Free Europe, tells the media that he goes to work once or twice a week outside the border, where official Belgrade has moved its institutions, after the closure. During the next three or four days, Misholli works from home in Kosovo.

But there are also those who do not go to work after the closure of their institution by the Kosovar authorities. Such is the case of Petri, who, as Radio Evropa e Lire claims, goes to Raska in Serbia just to get his salary.

Kosovo has started the closure of Serbian institutions since January 2024, initially putting a lock on the temporary municipal bodies of Dragash, Suhareka, Prizren and Rahovec, south of the Ibër River.

Later, the branches of the Post of Serbia in the north of Kosovo, the vault of the People's Bank of Serbia in Leposavic, the Savings Bank of the Post, the Office for Kosovo of the Government of Serbia, the Directorate of the Pension and Invalid Insurance Fund, the Administrative District of Kosovo- Mitrovica and the Center for Social Work in Vushtrri.
