EULEX reinforces its Specialized Police Unit with a Reserve Specialized Police Unit to support stability in Kosovo and security for all communities
The European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX) is reinforcing its Specialist Police Unit (SPU) through the temporary deployment of members of the European Gendarmerie Force (EUROGENDFOR) from France, Italy, Lithuania and Portugal. These officers will work side by side with the SPU provided by the Polish Police to fulfil the Mission’s mandate to support stability throughout Kosovo and to ensure security for all communities.
The NJPSR will consist of EUROGENDFOR assets provided by the French National Gendarmerie, the Italian Carabinieri, the Lithuanian Public Security Service and the Portuguese National Republican Guard.
The JPSR is expected to arrive in Kosovo in the coming days to address the Mission's need for additional forces on the ground to better support its Kosovo counterparts - including acting as a second security responder in Kosovo, if required and necessary. The JPSR will conduct visible patrols and contribute to the Mission's situational awareness.
This will be the fifth deployment of the EULEX JPSR Unit, with the first deployment taking place in March 2022.
EULEX serves as the second security responder in Kosovo within a three-tier security responder mechanism, with the Kosovo Police as the first security responder, EULEX as the second, and the NATO-led KFOR mission as the third. (A2 Televizion)
