Snow and frost in Kosovo, some roads are blocked in Pristina

The snow that started falling last night and continues today has made it difficult for vehicles to move freely on many roads in Kosovo, but also in Pristina. Citizens have reported difficulties on the Pristina-Peja, Pristina-Mitrovica road, but also on other regional and local roads.

Meanwhile, it has been reported about the blocking of some secondary roads in Pristina. Even on the main roads, queues have been caused, due to the difficulties of vehicles to move.

Also, the citizens have announced that many vehicles are unable to cross the Veternik road. KosovaPress has tried to speak with representatives of the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Municipality of Pristina, but such a thing has been impossible.

Meanwhile, the Kosovo Police has appealed for increased caution when driving on snow-covered roads. "Based on the current situation where we have a change in weather conditions and snowfall, the Kosovo Police appeals to all traffic participants, in particular vehicle drivers, for increased caution, adaptation of speed to weather conditions and road conditions, maintaining the distance between vehicles, as well as slowing down when moving on roads covered with snow and frost", the Police appeal states.

After the spring temperatures of the last few days, typical winter weather for this time period is expected at the weekend. Snow showers beginning during the evening and overnight are forecast to continue through Saturday at times.

At lower altitudes, during the day it can mix with rain, or fall in the form of sleet. Light and medium northerly winds blow 3-7m/s. Minimum temperatures drop to 0C and -1C, and maximum temperatures during the day go up to 1C and 3C. The coldest weather with snowfall is expected on Sunday and Monday. A colder northerly wind will blow with a gust of up to 13 m/s.

In parts of the country, icy days will be recorded, with maximums of only -2C and -3C, and minimum ones down to -6C. The rain is expected to stop on Tuesday, but there are still more clouds over the country and throughout Wednesday. The maxima mark a slight increase in 1C.

The Kosovo Police has come out with an appeal for increased caution in traffic due to atmospheric conditions. Based on the current situation where we have a change in weather conditions and snowfall, the Kosovo Police appeals to all traffic participants, in particular vehicle drivers, for increased caution, adaptation of speed to weather conditions and road conditions, keeping of the distance between vehicles as well as deceleration during movement on roads covered with snow and frost.
