Albanian accused of war crimes in Kosovo, trial begins in absentia

The Special Prosecution of the Republic of Kosovo has filed an indictment against the defendant Muharrem Ibraj of Albanian nationality, due to well-founded suspicion that he has committed the criminal offense: "Crime of war against the civilian population", sanctioned by Article 142 in conjunction with Article 22 of the Criminal Law of the former SFRY.

A2 CNN writes that investigations have established that the defendant, during the period 1998-1999 in the village of Osek Hylë in the Municipality of Gjakova, acting in collaboration with members of the Serbian police forces, committed murders, rapes, arrests and mistreatment of the Albanian civilian population who were not involved in the war.

The prosecution has proposed holding the trial in absentia, in accordance with the provisions of the KCCP, because the defendant is at large.

The Special Prosecution Office remains committed to prosecuting and bringing to justice all persons responsible for war crimes in Kosovo. (A2 Televizion)
