Democratic Party MP Genc Strazimiri has issued a strong statement accusing the Albanian government of installing an authoritarian regime similar to that of Vladimir Putin, but disguised with Western alliances.
In the show 'ÇdoKënd' with journalist Merita Haklaj on A2 CNN, he states that Albanian society has surrendered, while the vote has become a commodity that is sold for 50 euros.
"Let's reject this kind of Putinism dressed in NATO garb and return to being free people. It is a society that is unfortunately tired of freedom. It had freedom, but it was not willing to sacrifice and fight for it. So it is gradually being lost," Strazimir said.
According to him, vote buying and selling has become the norm and the degradation has been progressive since 2013.
"The vote was bought for a minimum of 50 euros. From election to election, the price for buying a vote has decreased," he emphasized.
The Albanian media was also targeted by criticism, which Strazimir accuses of self-censorship and collaboration with the government in exchange for financial favors.
"A large part of the people and the media have surrendered. They have surrendered to the desire to do business, to get rich quickly, in a dubious way, with a government that makes this possible because you are the media and you have power in your hands, precisely to remain silent about the phenomena that are happening," he added.
Strazimir raised the alarm about the state of press freedom and the role of the prime minister in controlling editorial offices.
"If journalists self-censor, if the media's editorial policy is made by the prime minister, then a society is no longer free," he concluded. (A2 Televizion)
